‘My name is Minel Pierre Fils. I was born on August 31 1963 in Gros Morne, Haiti. I am married with two daughters. In 1978, I graduated from The Salvation Army primary school in Gardon, Haiti and then completed high school in 1990 at the Lycée Petion, Port-au Prince, Haiti.

‘I have a diploma in Spanish language from the Lope de Vega Institute, Port-au Prince, Haiti, and also I have an advanced degree in French. From 1996-2000 I studied law at Université d'Etat d’Haïti in Gonaives, graduating as a lawyer. I am currently in my last year studying computer science.

‘I attended The Salvation Army Training College and was commissioned as a Salvation Army Officer in 1988.

‘After 1988, I worked in various Salvation Army corps. My last corps appointment was at Scarborough Corps in Trinidad and Tobago (2001 – 2003). From 2003 to 2005, I was the Divisional Youth Secretary in Trinidad and Tobago. Since 2005 I have been the Administrator of the biggest Salvation Army school in the Caribbean – Verena College. Our work involves socializing and educating children from kindergarten to high school. Some of the children have left their families in the provinces to come to stay with people in the capital, and sometimes they don’t receive good treatment. As a result, I am obligated to visit where they are living in order to advocate on their behalf.’
